What is Sportsbook Hold?
The hold (also called vig, juice, or overround) is the sportsbook's built-in margin. It's the difference between the total implied probability of all outcomes and 100%. For a standard -110/-110 market, the hold is about 4.5%. Lower hold means better value for bettors. Sharp sportsbooks often have holds of 2-3%, while recreational books may charge 6-10%.
No-Vig Fair Odds
No-vig (or "fair") odds remove the sportsbook's margin to show the true implied probability of each outcome. To calculate them, divide each side's implied probability by the total implied probability. Comparing fair odds across books helps identify which book offers the best price on each side.
